Franklin lineman Wyatt Burnette has accepted a preferred walk-on position with the Western Carolina University football team.
The 6-foot-4, 280-pound senior was named the 2015 Western North Carolina Athletic Conference Lineman of the Year after anchoring a line that averaged 5.9 rushing yards a carry along with 28 points and 270 rushing yards per game. The WNCAC champion Panthers (10-4) produced a 2,000-yard rusher for the third consecutive season (fellow senior Kelton Lowry).
“He had some offers and looks from some smaller schools, but (WCU) is where he wanted to go,” Franklin coach Josh Brooks said.
“He’s happy, I’m happy. It’s a good choice for him.”
