* On the floor: Averaged 27 points and 5.6 rebounds for a Cougars squad that finished 20-9. Shot 44.6 percent from the field, 32.5 percent from 3-point range and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line. Joined the varsity squad as an eighth-grader and finished with 3,331 career points, ranking eighth in state history. Named 16th Region Player of the Year by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches. Played for his father, Matthew, all five seasons at Morgan County.

* Off the floor: Carries a 4.1 grade-point average and is ranked No. 1 in the senior class at Morgan County. A member of the National Honor Society and several other clubs. Would like to study math or business in college.

* Future: Committed to Pikeville after drawing interest from several NCAA Division I schools, including VMI, New Hampshire, Delaware, Maryland-Baltimore County and Loyola (Md.). “We just felt like the best fit for him was at UPike,” Matthew Perry said.

* Quotable: “It’s been a great opportunity to spend more quality time with my son and make sure he’s progressing athletically in the direction we wanted him to,” Matthew Perry said of coaching his son. “He’s progressed each and every year and really took on a leadership role his junior and senior years. It’s tough at times because you expect a lot from your own child. At the same time, it never ceased to amaze me how he continued to get better each and every game.”
