The Canterbury baseball team is moving up in the national rankings following five consecutive shutouts and a huge extra-inning win over Collier County power Gulf Coast.
The Cougars jumped from No. 18 to No. 13 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 50 rankings released Tuesday.
One of eight teams from Florida in the top 25, Canterbury (23-1) scored road shutouts over Bradenton St. Stephen’s, Marco Academy Academy, Southwest Florida Christian, Evangelical Christian and Estero before knocking off Gulf Coast 4-2 in eight innings Monday. The Cougars, who are looking to make a return to the state Final Four at JetBlue Park next month, will be the top seed in next week’s District 3A-6 tournament.
Led by junior Donovan Duvall, Canterbury, which ends the regular season against IMG Academy at home Wednesday, is hitting .354 as a team with 204 runs scored.
On the mound, the staff is posting a 0.65 ERA.
