BEAR – Falling behind to Archmere by two goals in the second half didn’t bother the Caravel girls lacrosse team Thursday night.
“We just keep fighting to the end,” said junior goalie Hannah Seamans after the Buccaneers rallied for an 11-9 win over the visiting Auks in a game that was delayed 45 minutes by passing storms in the area. “When we’re down, we know how to get back up and keep going it. It worked out for us tonight.”
“We didn’t let the bad things get to us tonight,” added Buccaneers junior attack Lauren Phillips, who scored 5 goals on the evening. “We just really worked together better as a team in the second half. I think that was the key for us.”
Caravel (3-1) jumped out to a 4-2 first half lead behind goals from Megan Hartzel, DeLaney Chrisco and Olivia Duarte, who also had a hat trick in the game. Archmere rallied behind a hat trick from Presley Conaty and two goals from Sydney Yanick to take an 8-6 lead with just over 15 minutes to go.
From there, Seamans slammed the door all but once, stopping 14 shots on the evening and allowing her offense room to operate.
“Hannah is really a wall for us,” Phillips said. “We have a lot of young and new players on defense, so she puts them where they need to be. She just always knows what to do.”
“We’ve really been working on offense and defense in practices, especially our crashes,” Seamans explained. “That really helped us out tonight.”
With Seamans keeping Archmere from expanding the lead, Phillips scored Caravel’s final four goals to give the Bucs the lead for good.
Archmere, who also got goals from Olivia Baldi, Anna Baxter and Camryn Howarth, fell to 3-1 on the season.
