With just weeks before the football season, the Charlotte Panthers are helping ensure that one local high school has adequate facilities to ensure they will have every advantage to be competitive.

As reported by the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers are teaming with Lowe’s Home Improvement to help West Charlotte High School earn a $200,000 grant as part of a project that will bring the school a brand new turf field, a new track and renovations to the facilities restrooms, concession stands and surrounding landscaping.

Some 40 Lowe’s volunteers are scheduled to donate their time to make the changes and beautification changes happen.

The Panthers’ outreach is being provided as part of the NFL’s Grassroots field grant program. The NFL will pay for the $200,000 project out of its own budget, not that of the Panthers, but is doing so specifically because West Charlotte is in the Panthers’ market. The same can be said of Smoky Mountain High School, which will allegedly receive a new turf field as part of another $200,000 grant in the next two weeks.

In the meantime, Sirr Purr and company will focus on West Charlotte, just in time for the forthcoming season.
