The public is invited to celebrate the life and career of late Hamilton County Councilman and Indiana Football Hall of Fame coach Jim Belden at a memorial service scheduled for Saturday at Ivy Tech’s Noblesville campus.
The ceremony begins at 3 p.m. Saturday at the former Noblesville High School, 300 N. 17th St. in Noblesville.
The event will feature special tributes and presentations from Hall of Fame coach Dick Dullaghan, former Rep. Dan Burton, U.S. Rep. Susan Brooks and more.
Belden, 77, died Feb. 14 in his Carmel home after battling a serious illness.
Born in Battle Creek, Mich., in 1939, Belden later moved to Indianapolis and attended Shortridge High School where he was an all-city and all-state fullback.
As an adult, he was a high school teacher and football coach for more than 30 years, leading the Westfield, Noblesville and Carmel football programs.
He retired from coaching in 1996 with a 283-80-2 lifetime record and four state championships. He was inducted into the Indiana Football Coaches Hall of Fame in April 1996 and has served as president, vice president and regional director of the Indiana Football Coaches Association.
Belden joined the Hamilton County Council in 1993 where served the community for the next 23 years.
