The Central Jaguars improved to 8-1 (5-0 in District 1-1A) and moved into the driver seat of the district chase after handing Paxton a 4-0 loss on Monday night.
The Jaguars split with Paxton last season, and will face the Bobcats again April 8.
Aaron Robinson picked up the win, remaining undefeated from the mound this year.
“Aaron just pitched his butt off (Monday night),” Central coach Brian Roberts said. “I’m very proud of this team so far. We had some hiccups at the beginning of the year. We had to get our focus where it needed to be and we had to start swinging our bats better.
Robinson terrorized Paxton hitters, fanning 15 batters in the win.
Robinson also connected for two hits and drove in two runs.
Nolan Frady was perfect at the plate (3-for-3) scoring one run.
The Jaguars had to battle Paxton’s ace — Austin Franklin (6’3, 215 lbs) — who has committed to Samford University.
“Last year when Paxton threw Franklin against us, they beat us 3-1,” Roberts said. “(Monday night) our kids just put everything together and did everything that was asked of them. To face a pitcher with the caliber of Franklin’s, and win 4-0, that is a big momentum boost for us.”
The Jags have posted wins over their rival Jay (7-1) and Northview, which made a trip to the state final four last season.
The Jaguars face Laurel Hill this afternoon, and will take eight days off before their next game at Baker.
“We’ve gotta win out in district play,” Roberts said. “We can’t put this on cruise control. We’ve gotta keep our foot on the gas or we will lose momentum.”
