The nation’s most-renowned boys basketball program hasn’t played a game in Western North Carolina since 2012.

That is about to change — Christ School and Oak Hill Academy (Va.) have agreed to meet Jan. 27, 2017 in Arden. The tip-off from inside Mebane Fieldhouse will take place at 7 p.m.

No WNC school has ever beaten Oak Hill, but a 2012 game between the Warriors and Greenies went to overtime. Oak Hill beat Christ School, 112-73, last January in Mouth of Wilson (Va.).

Oak Hill won its ninth national championship since 1993 in April. Longtime coach Steve Smith had produced 28 McDonald’s All-Americans and 17 NBA draft picks.

Christ School went 23-9 in its first season under coach Scott Willard, winning the Carolinas Athletic Association regular-season and tournament championships last February. A pair of All-CAA selections, Matt Halvorsen and William Fleming, are due back for the 2016-17 season.
