NEW ALBANY, Ind. — Rock Creek and Christian Academy of Indiana is turning into a special boys basketball rivalry.
Christian Academy hit nine of its last 10 free throws and held off visiting Rock Creek, 72-65 in double overtime Friday night.
Stephen Cook, who tallied just five points over the first three quarters, scored 11 of his game-high 24 points in the two overtime periods to lead the Warriors (3-1).
“In the first overtime, I took him to the side and asked him to take over for us,” CAI coach Steve Kerberg said of Cook. “It just didn’t seem like he was here tonight. But in the end, he was aggressive and got to the rim.”
Noah Williams, who hit some huge free throws in the second overtime, added 24 points for Christian Academy.
Terrance Browning, who had 30 points against Moore High School in Louisville, led the way with 18 points for Rock Creek (3-3). Ravaun Bailey also scored 18 points for the Lions.
“Rock Creek’s been playing well,” Kerberg said. “They’re a good basketball team. It’s a sectional opponent and this was a great atmosphere.”
Ravaun Bailey added 18 points for the Lions.
