The Coloradoan has named its Male Athlete of the Week for contests March 14-19.

School: Fossil Ridge
The performance: Kovac played a big role in Fossil Ridge winning the Coaches Invitational for the first time. Kovac won the 100 backstroke in 50.83 seconds, almost three full seconds ahead of second place. He also swam the anchor leg as the SaberCats won the 400 free relay. Kovac placed fifth in the 200 IM and was part of the 200 medley relay team that finished second.
Each week the Coloradoan will name one male and one female high school athlete of the week. Winners will be announced online Monday afternoon’s and in print on Tuesday.
Nominations can be submitted via coloradoan.com/athleteofweek and must be sent by noon Monday for the previous week’s action. The competition is open to all of Northern Colorado, including Fort Collins, Windsor, Loveland and Greeley.
The awards are part of the Coloradoan’s commitment to honor local high school athletes, culminating in the Northern Colorado Sports Award show in May with guest speaker Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos. All-area selections for each sport at the end of the season will determine the athletes who will be invited to the awards show.
