It’s a friendly competition, but a competition nonetheless.
Connor Daly shot a 2-under 68 to win the 10th annual Canno Invitational on Thursday at Metropolis Country Club, rolling in four birdies to offset a pair of bogeys. The reigning NYSPHSAA champion and recent Bronxville graduate finished one shot ahead of James McHugh and three clear of Josh Goldenberg.
Brian Bartow and Dylan Newman, who are both professionals, shot 73s to finish in a fourth-place tie.
The event is the brainchild of Rye Neck coach Mark Canno, who invites a number of local standouts over to play a round then kick back for a casual dinner.
A best-ball team event is also part of the fun.
Tyler Nathan, Aidan McDermott, Paul Terminiello and Goldenberg won, posting an 8-under 62. Canno, James McHugh, Matt Bettino and Nathan Wunderli finished two shots behind.
