A season that had some ups and downs came to an end for the Desert Christian Academy Conquerors on Friday night.
The Conquerors, one of only two teams in the desert to win a playoff game this year, fell on the road at Lancaster Baptist 66-34 in an eight-man Division 2 quarterfinal game.
DCA finises at 6-5 and with a second-place spot in the league.
“It was a good season, even though it might not be a win-loss record that people are going to be impressed by,” head coach Scott Gilbert. “When you look at how many of the teams we played were in the top 10, I’m very proud of our team.”
On Friday, the Conquerors led most of the first half, but a late score by Lancaster Baptist gave them a 28-22 halftime lead. Then, starting with the opening kickoff of the second half, the game got out of hand for the Conquerors.
Seth Kint had two touchdown receptions in the loss, and Mark Spates ran “like a warrior all night” according to Gilbert, soldiering through an injury.
Bryce Jordan led the way defensively, and the offensive line play drew kudos from coach Gilbert. That unit includes Micah Myers, Brandon Janelle and Noah McCoy.
“We’re disappointed by tonight’s outcome, but we played hard and that’s all you can ask for,” Gilbert said.
