Lansing Catholic graduate Cooper Rush has made another one of college football’s preseason awards watch list.
The Central Michigan senior quarterback was named Thursday morning to the watch list for the Davey O’Brien National Quaterback Award. Rush was one of 30 players named to the watch list for the award, which goes to the nation’s top college quarterback.
Rush and Western Michigan’s Zach Terrell are the only Mid-American Conference quarterbacks among the list of 30.
Rush, a Charlotte native, earned second team all-MAC honors after throwing for a CMU-record 3,848 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior. He enters his senior season ranked in the top five in CMU history in career touchdown passes (second, 67), passing yards (third, 9,354) and passes completed (third, 744).
OKEMOS GRAD MAKES LIST: Western Michigan senior offensive lineman Taylor Moton was named to the watch list for the Outland Trophy last week.
Moton, a 2012 Okemos graduate, was an All-MAC selection as a junior and started all 13 games for the Broncos. The 6-foot-5 and 328-pound Moton was a key part of a WMU rushing attack that ranked 29th nationally.
