Croswell-Lexington protected its home ground by running all over it.

At the Mike Jackson Invitational, the Pioneers boys and girls teams dominated the 12-team field with a pair of first place team wins.

The Lady Pioneers had their five fastest runners place in the top 13 with senior Calli Townsend leading the way with a 21:25 to finish second overall. Senior Kylie Klaas was sixth (22:34), junior Anna Lootens was 10th (23:28), senior Corbin Redman was 11th (23:33) and freshman Lily Connelly was 13th (23:40).

“I think everyone’s got the nerves out and it was nice to do at the home course, especially with having some people having their first high school meets today, too,” Cros-Lex coach Lisa Smith said.

Placing first overall in the girls race — by a wide margin — was Port Huron Northern junior Ashley Defrain with a 20:30. Northern took fourth overall with 106 points.
