After the poor weather that occurred last week, it seemed like the boys of the CV baseball team would never get to play a section game. Coming off a win on Wednesday the 6th, the Colts were supposed to play their first section game two days later on Friday. The weather postponed the game to Monday. The Colts knew they were going to continue waiting to play when the rain poured nonstop. The Colts put in the hard work at practice, hungry for a section game and a first section win. It was not ’til Wednesday the 13th, a week since playing, the Colts took on their rival for a night game on the road.
The Colts secured a 5-4 victory against the Montour Spartans at Burkett Field in a match up that will most likely be seen again in the playoffs. The Colts had runners on 1st and 2nd in the 1st inning bringing up catcher Joe Sibeto to the plate. On the second pitch of the at-bat, Sibeto cranked a 3-run homer to left field, giving the Colts an early 3-0 lead. Horew pitched for the Colts and got himself into a couple of jams early in the game but managed to get out of them with the help of his teammates and choice of pitches. The Spartans put up 2 runs in back to back innings giving them a 4-3 lead. The Colts did what they do best, which is battle. They came back strong the next inning putting up 2 on a double by Dante Panucci. It was lights out from there as Horew finished the game on the mound and the Colts went home with a huge first section win under their belt.
