The 8th Annual PHBA Senior Doubles tournament took place last Saturday at St. Clair River Lanes. Ted Dalia and Terry Krause showed tremendous consistency in their three finals matches to earn the tournament title. For their six baker games in those three matches, Dalia/Krause averaged 209 and were never below 195. Krause became the first bowler to repeat as champion of this event as he also won it in 2013 with Tony Chevalier.
Don and Dick Lumley finished second and provided a serious challenge in the final match. They started the two-game match with a 244 giving them a great shot at the win, but were unable to maintain the pace in the final game. The Lumleys were top seed for the finals based on their qualifying set of three games each.
The two other teams making the final four were Gary Marinez/Jeff Meldrum and Paul Fleming/John Galvin. The four top qualifiers were also the last standing during the finals matches. The rest of the finalists in order of qualifying position were Robert Tinker/Wayne Hinson, Paul Collins/Steve Jakubowski, Dwayne Rich/Jim Gibson, and Barb Brown/Larry Brown. The top three individual scores from the qualifying round were Gene Watson 707, Robert Tinker 702, and Jeff Meldrum 702.
In league play, Jim Gostovich recorded the only award score with an 805 series in the Tuesday Night Classic league at Strikers Entertainment Center. Two others were nearly perfect at Port Huron Lanes as Lew Gunn threw a 299 game in the 3-B4-1 Sunday Trio and Jim Creasor did likewise in the Sunday Outcast. Creasor ended with second high series of the week with a 772 and Gunn was third at 761. Creasor also had 752 in 3-B4-1.
Terry Crampton led the women with a 684 series in the Blue Water Mens league at St. Clair River Lanes. Annette Paradis was not far behind with a 672 in the Saturday Night Bridge league at Port Huron Lanes. They were followed by Michelle Carlson 665, Jaclyn Meldrum 645 & 637, Irene Simmons 643, Rosann Brachel 637, Joddy Swoffer 635, Karyn Mazei 631, Kim Hone 628, Alicia Schroeder 625, Kristie Lashbrook 614, Jamie Prize 614, Aleiha Watson 613, and Peg Vanantwerp 608.
Top games for the ladies were Carlson 255, Hone 246, Brachel 245, Crampton 244, Simmons 237, Meldrum 235 & 222, Michelle Jones 235, Swoffer 234, Dawn Hicks 233, Paradis 233, Chelsea Kelly 232, Lashbrook 232, Sherri Beidler 229, Peggy Chambers 229, Jennifer Reynolds 227, Mazei 227, Theresa Chisholm 226, Kathleen Smith 225, Debbie Alderson 223, Schroeder 223 & 222, Elayne Gale 222, Linda Brennan 220, Amanda Long 220, and Kristi Harm 220.
Don Pollauf tied for third high series with a 761 in the Blue Water Mens league at St. Clair. Two others topped 750 with Matt Langolf at 756 and Ray LaVere at 752, both at Port Huron Lanes. They were followed by Jeff Morrison 748, Chuck Middleton 746, Rob Roberts 742, Rob Ritchey 737, Jeff Schott 736, Craig Seaman 736, Pat Reilly 732, Mike E Gossman 729, Langolf 729, Paul Collins 726, Chuck Ouellette 726, Jerry Grzech 722, and Cliff Crawford 721.
Other outstanding games included Gostovich 290, Mo Ibrahim 289, Eric Schmitt 289, Rich Engelbert 289, Ryan Kelly 287, and Darron Stevenson 279. Also getting 279 were Reilly, LaVere, and Pollauf. Middleton had 278.
Special Mention: Shaun Golubinski picked up his first 700 series with a 713 in the Sunday Funtimers league at Bowl O Drome. He was 176 pins over average with that set.
Upcoming Tournaments: The Lapish Mixed Doubles tournament will be January 23-24 at Port Huron Lanes. There are three shifts each day.
