Defensive gems were at the top of Friday night’s action as the mid-point of the regular season hit the area.
Airline and Evangel led the charge with shutout wins while Benton, Haughton and Haynesville all turned in solid defensive performances.
Evangel didn’t give up a first down and limited University Academy to a minus 49 yards in a 72-0 win.
Airline allowed just 65 yards in shutting down a Captain Shreve team that was averaging 340 yards and 35 points per game.
Haynesville won a big District 1-1A game by limiting Plain Delaing to just one score in its 40-8 win.
Haughton allowed just one first down and 26 yards in a 44-12 win against Southwood. The Cowboys only points came on two fumble returns to scores.
Benton held Delmonte Hall and North Desoto to just one touchdown in its 28-7 District 1-4A win. Hall entered the game with a state-leading 16 touchdowns.
Individually Booker T. Washington’s Tre’Shawn Hill intercepted four passes as the Lions gave Madison its first loss of the season, 28-18. Hill now has six on the season.
