JACKSON – Sam DeMeester and the Coldwater football team began the 2016 season with a bang, running over host Jackson by a score of 33-22 on Friday.

DeMeester carried the ball 30 times for 271 yards and two touchdowns – his last score giving the Cardinals a commanding 33-8 halftime lead.

Also for the Cardinals, Joey Severn had 11 carries for 76 yards and three touchdowns and Collin Torrey had three carries for 53 yards.

Defensively for Coldwater, Severn led the way with eight tackles and an interception while DeMeester had seven stops.

Jackson, coming off a season in which they reached the Division 2 playoffs, was led offensively by Shonte Suddeth with 21 carries for 225 yards and a score. Lance Taylor had seven carries for 45 yards and two touchdowns.

Coldwater (1-0) returns to action Sept. 1 when it hosts Marshall (0-1) in an Interstate Eight Conference tilt.
