Najee Harris is the nation’s top running back prospect. No one disagrees with that, and many even believe he’s the top overall prospect in the senior class. It’s also nearly universally recognized that Harris should be a difference-maker at the next level, with the Bay Area product long planning to enroll at Alabama. Perhaps those plans are shifting a bit now with Michigan and coach Jim Harbaugh making a late push.
While few predicted that Harbaugh would make a significant impact in Harris’ commitment, perhaps he’s doing just that. The latest tea leaves which might indicate such a shift are Harris’ Instagram follows. Not who follows him, keep in mind, but who he follows. As noted by CollegeSpun, Harris began following Michigan commits quarterback Dylan McCaffrey and defensive end Corey Malone-Hatcher on Sunday.
Then the plot thickened further, as Harris also chose to follow a few current Wolverines and his prospective position coach in Ann Arbor.
Maybe Harris was just being polite? After all, Tyrone Wheatley did go out of his way to find a jazz musician who shared Harris’ name.
For now, Harris is definitely still a future Alabama player, but that future status seems far less certain than it ever has before.
