Dontavious Jackson, the No. 2 inside linebacker in the USA TODAY composite recruiting list for the 2016 class, chose Florida State over Alabama, Florida, Michigan and Texas on Wednesday in a live announcement on ESPNU.
“The coaching staff made me really comfortable,” Jackson said. “I feel like I have an opportunity to come in and make my impact and build my brand. This class that we’re building is going to be great. Big things are coming for Florida State.”
Jackson, who is 6-2 and 239 pounds, said he was glad to have the decision over.
“It feels good. It feels like a big load is off my shoulders,” Jackson said. “I don’t have to answer any more questions. The process is done already, I just have to get to work. … Nole fans are in store for a guy who can do everything at the linebacker position.”
Jackson runs the 100 meters in 11.2 seconds and played running back and linebacker last season at Elsik (Houston). As a junior, he had 165 tackles. As a senior, he made the Associated Press 6A All-State honorable mention team.
Jackson’s teammate, safety Chris Brown, committed to Texas on Wednesday.
