Flushing Madison quarterback Colby Edwards out of the pocket is not recommended.

Edwards rushed for 206 yards and four touchdowns in Thursday’s 56-21 win over Avery County in Newland.

The senior also completed four of his six pass attempts for 79 yards and a touchdown for the Patriots (5-4, 2-2) Backup Jordan Baker connected on all five of his throws for 55 yards and two touchdowns. Dawson Coates, Jordan Baker and Tyler Smith made a touchdown catch apiece.

Ty Snelson was the top rusher with 22 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown.

Madison had 25 first downs compared to just nine for the Vikings (1-3, 3-6) in a football game that was moved up from Friday due to weather concerns.

Avery County quarterback Christian Hicks passed for 114 yards with a pair of touchdowns to Brett Smith, who had 101 receiving yards. Steven Sanchez ran 13 times for 95 yards and a touchdown.
