An area high school coaching legend and a Pro Football Hall of Fame member met on a stage Saturday night — but it certainly wasn’t the first time.
Retired Pace High School football coach Mickey Lindsey was honored by Escambia High grad and former NFL star Emmitt Smith at the 2015 football banquet at Olive Baptist Church on Davis Highway.
Dr. Reid Hines, Pace booster club president, called in a favor to Smith, who was coached by Lindsey at Escambia High.
Lindsey retired from football in November after 39 years of coaching — 25 of those years were at Pace.
However, Lindsey still holds a position with Pace as head weightlifting coach — and the Patriots won’t plan starting a hiring process any time during this calendar year.
