Delton Kellogg boys basketball
Not long ago, Delton Kellogg was struggling though a tough part of its schedule with a 3-6 overall record. But Cogan McCoy decided to do something about it, leading his team to four consecutive victories. In a 57-45 win over Lawton, the junior guard poured in a game-high 27 points. He followed that effort up with 22 points in a 54-44 win over former Kalamazoo Valley Association rival Maple Valley, as the Panthers improved to 7-6 on the season.
Harper Creek wrestling
Through 40 matches this season, Ethan Bishop has tasted defeat only twice. The 125-pounder had a big week on the mats for the Beavers, beginning with a win that helped Harper Creek defeat cross-town rival Pennfield. Then at last weekend’s Interstate Eight Conference Meet, the junior led the Beavers to the tournament championship and a second-place finish overall in the conference by earning the individual league title at 125 pounds.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
Marshall girls basketball
Marshall played only one game this week, but won impressively with a 57-32 victory over Pennfield to stay atop the Interstate Eight Conference standings and extend its winning streak to 11 games. Following the contest, the Class B eighth-ranked Redhawks presented a $2,500 check to the American Cancer Society after raising the funds with a ‘Free-Throw-A-Thon.’
