Keller has provided some extra-base power to Harper Creek’s lineup in 2016 and she continued swinging a hot bat this week.
The senior infielder led the Beavers to a title at the Battle Creek Central Invitational on May 7, hitting two doubles with an RBI in a 9-4 victory over Lakeview in the championship game following three hits including a double and three RBIs in a 10-0 semifinal win over Delton Kellogg. In a loss to Parma Western on May 3, she collected three hits including a home run and two RBIs

The two-time reining ‘Mr. Golf’ Award winner and defending Division 1 state champion, Walker has played will a bullseye on his back all season.
Still, the senior continues to lead the Division 1 seventh-ranked Spartans on the links. He shot a 4-under-par 68 to help the host team win the Lakeview Invitational on May 6; he shot an 81 at the Forest Hills Central Invitational on May 7; he fired a team-best 2-under par 70 at the Birmingham Seaholm Invite on May 9 and capped off a busy week by helping Lakeview win its third straight SMAC East Jamboree with a 39 on May 10.
Mathewson has been frustrating opposing hitters all season with her efforts from the circle and has been equally impressive from the batter’s box.
The junior pitcher is 8-2 on the season and has thrown two no-hitters and two one-hitters. She’s has also been dangerous with her bat, hitting .454 for the season while helping the Broncos win 11 of their last 12 games. In the past week, she’s hitting a staggering .580 and has showed some extra-base power with one home run and two triples.
Coldwater girls soccer
Freshmen are not supposed to step in and play the way Rzepka has for the Cardinals this season.
The first-year striker has helped Coldwater to its best start in program history as the Cardinals posted a 3-1 record this week behind her combined six goals and two assists. She netted a pair of goals in a victory over Jackson Northwest on May 4; had two goals in a win over Springport and one goal and two assists in a shootout loss to Ann Arbor Huron at the Hanover Horton Invitational on May 7; and had one goal in a victory over Harper Creek on May 9.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
Marshall made things interesting in the Interstate Eight Conference standings thanks to a 6-5 win over Pennfield followed by a 3-1 win over Coldwater on May 9 in a pair of continuations from previously postponed games. Senior pitcher/infielder Drew DeVine led the Redhawks to the victory over the Division 2 second-ranked Cardinals with a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning. With the win, Marshall improved to 17-6 overall and 8-2 Interstate Eight.
