Cathedral’s Eron Gordon will not participate in the IndyStar Indiana All-Star series.
Gordon, a 6-3 guard, is headed to Seton Hall this week to begin summer school. His father, Eric Gordon Sr., confirmed the news to Indiana All-Star Games director Charlie Hall on Sunday night.
“Eron feels he needs to attend the entire summer school session this week to get ahead of the many challenges that college may bring,” Eric Gordon Sr., wrote in a text message. “After much thought and consideration, Eron has decided not to participate in the Indiana All-Star games and wishes his fellow players well.”
The Indiana All-Stars have an exhibition game against the Junior All-Stars on Tuesday at Bloomington South and another on Thursday in Lebanon. The games against the Kentucky All-Stars are Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse and Sunday at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky.
The All-Stars will also be without Bloomington South guard Tucker Blackwell, who injured his ankle during practice for Friday’s Hoosiers Reunion Classic. Blackwell is at camp this week with the All-Stars.
Hall said Gordon will be missed but is also confident the All-Stars will have plenty of firepower.
“While we’d love to Eron involved, I think a parent and a family has to do what they think is in the best interests of the kid,” Hall said. “I think this is really a case where the family and the player are doing what they think is in their best interests. We wish Eron luck.”
