Last week at the Phenom Hoops National Showcase, Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) forward Billy Preston told USA Today High School Sports that the reason he’d become even more productive and visibly engaged on the court as a senior year was because he’d found a coach in Steve Smith that he “could look up to.”
“I always wanted to play for a coach that I would do anything for,” Preston said.
It’s apparent that Preston has now also found that in Kansas head coach Bill Self, picking the Jayhawks over Indiana, Syracuse and USC Friday afternoon.
“Rock Chalk Jayhawks,” Preston said in a video on Bleacher Report.
Last season, Preston averaged 17 points and eight rebounds a game for Advanced Prep International (Dallas). He pumped in 13.7 points and 7.7 rebounds a game this past summer for Houston Hoops (Texas) on the Nike EYBL circuit.
Preston is Kansas’ second commitment from the 2017 class, Skyline (Dallas) wing Marcus Garrett committed in August.
