Wilson, a 5-star linebacker for Carver High in Montgomery, Ala., chose to sign with Alabama ahead of scholarship offers from in-state Georgia and a handful of other SEC powers. He’s a key addition to Alabama’s class, and will be expected to contribute for the Crimson Tide almost immediately.
Wilson thanked his coach, teammates, parents and others before committing with an Alabama national championship hat. He then put his infant sister on his lap who was wearing an Alabama outfit to match his jacket and cap.
Wilson’s signing gives Alabama another dominant in-state linebacker after Ben Davis from Gordo signed with the Tide earlier in the day.
There was legitimate intrigue surrounding Wilson’s decision, in part because of Alabama’s major late push to sign him. He had once been considered a likely Georgia recruit before Saban intervened late in the process. That undercut Kirby Smart, who had been recruiting Wilson before leaving to become the head coach at Georgia.
Wilson is an outside linebacker who is a supreme athlete. He’s opportunistic, hits hard and reads the game well. Sounds like a Nick Saban defensive player, huh?
