A Florida high school boys basketball coach has been barred from any contact with his team following a disturbing allegation of battery related to a reported dispute with his girlfriend.
As reported by Florida Fox affiliate WFTX, Lely High basketball coach Fritz Jacques stands accused of punching his girlfriend during an argument between the pair at her home. The resulting battery charges has led to a ruling that bars him from any contact with his team. Jacques has served as the Lely head coach for three seasons and was expected to continue in that role during the 2016-17 school year.
There are significantly more details about the incident in question provided by our Gannett partners at the Naples Daily News.
For now, that responsibility has been put on hold, as has his full-time role in the Exceptional Student Education Department. According to WFTX, the coach has been reassigned to the school district’s administrative building for the duration of the investigation into the incident.
In the meantime, Lely athletes and their parents are stunned with the sudden developments, and are now forced to wait and see who will lead their team in the months ahead.
