FOURCAST

SENIOR EXPERIENCE

Led by all-state linebacker Ryan Cornejo, the Panthers will return five seniors with two years of varsity starting experience in 2016. Falor said his team will rely heavily on this senior group to get the ball rolling as the new players get acclimated. Cornejo, Anthony Humm, Troy Bastian and Konner Vedrode are experienced two-way players that are expected to lead the Panthers as the season progresses.

ALL SKILL

Falor said this year’s running back group is the deepest the program has had in many years. Humm returns as the starter and will be helped in the backfield by first-year varsity player Brandon Huff. The receiving corps is lead by Cornejo and Vedrode, and Falor believes his group has “tremendous upside.”

FINDING CONSISTENCY

The Panthers reached the playoffs for the first time since 2011 last year, and with a solid core returning, they’re hoping to do the same in 2016. The defense will get back three all-conference players, but the offensive line needs some revamping. Bastian and Tristan Villalobos are the only returning offensive lineman from a group that Falor said needs to be more consistent.

FILLING THE HOLES

Aside from the offensive line, Alma will be looking to replace three-year starting quarterback Justin Doyle. Brock Milan and Drew Humm are the only two QBs listed and neither were on the varsity roster a season ago. Also, the Panthers will need to fill two positions at the linebacker position. Cornejo and CJ Thompson are the two starting linebackers back for another season and they’re looked on to lead the inexperienced players that line up next to them.
