Fort falls short in Region 3A West

By

ABINGDON — Fort Defiance’s trip into the Region 3A Golf Tournament was a short one Monday as the Indians finished sixth in an eight-team field to see its season end on the Glenrochie Country Club course.

Blacksburg won the tournament with Hidden Valley second. Both teams will now advance to the state. Rockbridge was third and Spotswood, which placed second to Fort Defiance in the Conference 29 championship last week, was fourth. The Indians carded a 359 for their sixth-place finish.

Christian Michael led the way for Fort with an 82, while Alex Gough carded an 89. Both Logan Pearson and Clint Cox finished with 94s.

“The course was very difficult,” Fort coach Scott Cash said. “The greens were very quick. They had undulations, and the ball would roll off. So would short putts.”

Despite seeing the season end, Cash was upbeat with his team’s accomplishments.

“I am very pleased with the season and the effort our guys gave,” he said. “We showed great improvement from the start of the season to its end.”
