The Fossil Ridge High School boys swimming team captured its first-ever team victory at the Dick Rush Coaches Invitational on Saturday.
The SaberCats racked up 428 points to finish first among 28 Class 5A teams competing in the meet held at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton, 68 points ahead of runner-up Regis Jesuit.
Fossil Ridge also boasted individual champions in Loren Gillilan, whose winning time of 51.96 seconds in the 100 butterfly cleared runner-up Patrick Kelley of Heritage by 0.01 seconds, and Danny Kovac, who claimed the 100 backstroke in 50.83.
The SaberCats’ 400 freestyle relay team of Kovac, Matt Geraghty, Craig Heimark and Mason Fine won their event in 3:12.02.

Fort Collins finished ninth as a team with 132.50 points.
Leading the Lambkins was the 200 medley relay team of Lucius Gao, Sam Roth, Jack Holter and Alex Dragan, who placed third in 1:39.05.
Holter was also fourth in the 500 free (4:52.48), Dragan took seventh in the 50 free (22.17) and Roth took eighth in the 100 breast (1:02.56).
Rocky Mountain was 21st as a team with 37 points. The Lobos’ highest-placing individual was Sawyer Kruse finishing 11th in the 100 back in 54.68 seconds.

In 4A, Windsor finished 10th out of 10 teams and had seven state-qualifying performances.
Colby Horton broke his own school record in the 100 butterfly, clocking 55.46 seconds to place 16th overall.
WINDSOR 14, STEAMBOAT SPRINGS 10 — Josh Bloss and KC Scott each had four goals and three assists as the Wizards picked up another big win on the road Saturday.
Windsor, which is ranked No. 9 in 4A in the preseason poll by CHSAAnow.com, knocked off No. 7 Steamboat two days after their road upset over No. 2 Valor Christian.
The Wizards (3-0) will next play Fossil Ridge at French Field at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
