The Fossil Ridge High School volleyball team has earned the No. 1 seed in postseason play.
The SaberCats (20-3) are seeded first out of 36 teams in Class 5A to qualify for this weekend’s regional tournaments.
Fossil Ridge will host play Saturday in a region with No. 24 and defending state champion Cherokee Trail (11-12) and No. 36 Columbine (9-14). Fossil Ridge will play Columbine first and Cherokee Trail in the final match of the day.
The SaberCats finished first in RPI standings in Class 5A and are aiming for a return to the state tournament after a two-year absence.
Fort Collins (17-6) is the No. 15 seed and will face No. 27 Vista Ridge (15-8) in the Lambkins first match. Fort Collins will face host and No. 10 seed Arapahoe (18-5) in the final match of the day.
Rocky Mountain (15-8) is the No. 23 seed and and will face No. 35 Brighton (11-12) in the Lobos first match. Rocky Mountain will face host and No. 2 Rock Canyon (21-2) in the final match of the day.
Windsor (10-13) is the No. 25 seed in 4A and will face host and No. 12 Palisade (14-9) in the first match of the day. The Wizards will then face No. 13 D’Evelyn (19-4).
Resurrection Christian (17-6), in its first season in 3A, is the No. 6 seed and will host a regional. The Cougars will face No. 31 Peak to Peak (13-10) in their first match, then face No. 19 Alamosa (14-9) in the final match of the day.
Match times for regional play are not set.
There are 12 regions and the winner of each region advances to next week’s state tournament.
