You’ve never heard of Paulin Puel … yet. Based on the move he pulled off during a recent game against Monaco in a U-19 game between the two Ligue 1 squads, that might be true for long.

Puel scored one of the wondergoals of the season on a self-assisting, back heel-flick-to-bicycle-kick shot. You know you’re watching a special goal when it takes eight different words in one extended hyphenated phrase to describe it.

No, Puel isn’t the next Messi. Nor is he the next Zidane or Henry, to connect with his own countrymen. However, he is a special athlete, and one whose has some powerful genes working for him as well; he’s the son of manager Claude Puel of Nice’s Ligue 1 side and the younger brother of Ligue 2 side Le Havre.
