NEW MARKET — John Garvey and Patrick Smith both carded rounds under 80 to lead Wilson Memorial’s golf team to a second-place finish at a Shenandoah District mini on Monday at Shenvalee Golf Club.
Garvey fired a 5-over-par 76 to tie for low-medalist honors with East Rockingham’s Alex Czerwinski. Smith came in with a 77 as the Green Hornets finished with an aggregate of 336, 13 strokes behind the Eagles’ total of 323.
Also scoring for Wilson were Ryan Campbell (89) and Jacob Sears (94).
Stuarts Draft turned in a solid effort with a 357 to finish fourth. Scorers for the Cougars were Ryan Thompson (84), Trent Ellis (87), Eric Custard (89) and Mark Rogers 97.
Riverheads, led by Evan Groah’s 94, finished seventh with a 453. Chase Landes shot a 114, while Isaac Sanger and Kyle Horne shot 117 and 124, respectively.
Buffalo Gap finished with a 477. Scorers for the Bison were Sydney Digman (107), Shelby Digman (115), Marybeth Strickler (120) and Sage Massey (135).
