The Gatorade State Girls Cross Country Runners of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Madison Troy
School: Grandville (Mich.)
Position: Distance Runner
Athletic achievement: The distance runner raced to the Division 1 individual state championship this past season with a time of 17:28.2. Troy finished seventh nationally at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in 17:41.2 and took 12th at the Nike Cross Nationals Final.
Academic excellence: Troy has maintained a 3.50 GPA.
Exemplary character: A devoted member of her church community, she has assisted at a food pantry and volunteered working with underprivileged children.
“Madison is as strong physically as she is mentally, which makes her a force to be reckoned with,” said Grandville coach Jennifer Callendar. “She seems to be an ordinary teenager, but as soon as she laces up her running shoes, she transforms into a superhuman athlete.”
THE FUTURE: Troy will begin her junior year of high school this fall.
