THE WINNER: Monica Mosley
School: Clinton (Miss.)
Athletic achievement: She won three individual state titles at the Class 6A state meet this past season, leading the Arrows to the state championship as a team. The state’s returning Gatorade Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year, Mosley won the 100-meter high hurdles in 14.18 seconds, captured the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 43.73 and leapt 40 feet, 2 inches to win the triple jump. She also ran a leg on the victorious 4×200 relay quartet.
Academic excellence: Mosley has maintained a B average.
Exemplary character: A devoted member of her church community and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, she has volunteered locally on behalf of a children’s summer camp.
“Monica can do anything on the track,” said Clinton head coach Johnathan Perkins. “I could just put her in an event and she would go out there and win it, it didn’t matter what the event was.”
THE FUTURE: Mosley has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete in track and field on scholarship at Mississippi State University this fall.
