The Gatorade State Boys Soccer Players of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Ed Gordon
School: Creighton Prep (Omaha, Neb.)
Position: Defensive Midfielder
Weight: 150 pounds
Athletic achievement: He has led the Junior Jays to an 18-1 record and a berth in the Class A State Tournament, scheduled to begin May 12. Gordon has scored three goals, passed for two assists and anchored a defense that had allowed just three goals. He was a 2015 Lincoln Journal Star Second Team Super State selection and a 2015 First Team All-Metro honoree.
Academic excellence: Gordon has maintained a 3.98 GPA.
Exemplary character: A finalist for the Brayman Award, given to the top Creighton Prep junior by the school’s English Department, he has volunteered locally as a peer tutor and youth soccer coach.
“Ed Gordon is technically sound, a solid defensive midfielder but also good going forward with his precise passing,” said Mike Doria, head coach of Millard West High. “He does a lot of the things that a casual fan wouldn’t notice.”
THE FUTURE: Gordon will begin his senior year of high school this fall.
