The Gatorade State Boys Track & Field Athletes of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Sebastian Eaton
School: Souhegan (Amherst, N.H.)
Weight: 155 pounds
Athletic achievement: He won three individual titles at the state’s Division II meet this past season, leading the Sabers to the championship as a team. Eaton won the 100-meter dash in 11.11 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 22.79 and the 400-meter dash in 50.26, also anchoring the silver medal-winning 4×100 relay quartet. At the state’s Meet of Champions, he captured gold in the 400 and bronze in the 200.
Academic excellence: Eaton has maintained a B average.
Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of an animal rescue organization.
“Sebastian sets individual and team goals and puts in the hard work to achieve them,” said Souhegan sprints coach Cathy Merra. “He’s a student of running and spends time studying the coaching methods of Olympic coaches.”
THE FUTURE: Eaton will begin his senior year of high school this fall.
