THE WINNER: Maegan Doody
School: Oyster River (Durham, N.H.)
Athletic achievement: She won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.43 and took the 1600-meter run in 4:47.85 at the state Meet of Champions this past season. Also a three-time Gatorade Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year, Doody won the 1600 at the New England Championships and captured both the 800 and 1600 at the Division 2 championship meet. She also took first in the mile at the Loucks Games.
Academic excellence: Doody has maintained a 3.94 GPA.
Exemplary character: She has donated her time as a member of Oyster River’s student council and as a student representative on the school board.
“What’s unique about Maegan is that she started distance running as a way to get in shape for sprinting,” said Oyster River coach Nick Ricciardi. “By accident, she found out that she had some talent there, and it ended up working out much better than anyone had expected.”
THE FUTURE: Doody has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete on an athletic scholarship at Georgetown University this fall.
