The Gatorade State Girls Cross Country Runners of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Alyssa Aldridge
School: Mainland Regional (Linwood, N.J.)
Position: Distance Runner
Athletic achievement: The distance runner raced to victory at the state Meet of Champions this past season with a time of 18:07. Aldridge also won the Group 3 individual state championship in 18:13. She broke the tape first at the Brown Invitational, the Shore Coaches Invitational and the Cherokee Challenge, and finished 23rd nationally at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships.
Academic excellence: Aldridge has maintained a 4.0 GPA. S
Exemplary character: he has volunteered locally on behalf of Our Children Making Change and a charity road race.
“Alyssa is the most hard-working individual I have coached in my 26 years at Mainland,” said Mainland head coach Dan Heyman. “She shows nothing but the utmost respect for her competition, and helps make everyone around her better.”
THE FUTURE: Aldridge will begin her junior year of high school this fall.
