New Jersey Girls Soccer POY: Frankie Tagliaferri


The Gatorade State Fall Girls Soccer Players of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 fall season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Frankie Tagliaferri


School: Colts Neck (N.J.)
Grade: Junior
Position: Forward
Height: 5-foot-6

Athletic achievement: She led the Cougars to a 24-0-1 record and the Group 3 state championship this past season. Tagliaferri scored 28 goals and passed for 18 assists, scoring the only goal in Colts Neck’s 1-0 win over Northern Highlands in the state final. A member of the U.S. Soccer Under-17 Women’s National Team, Tagliaferri is a two-time First Team All-State selection and is rated as the No. 8 recruit in the Class of 2017 by She concluded her junior year with 57 goals and 32 assists in her prep soccer career.

Academic excellence: Tagliaferri has maintained a B average.

Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally on behalf of Hurricane Sandy relief efforts and as a youth soccer coach.


“Colts Neck would have been a very good team without Frankie, but she put them into the ‘great’ category,” said Frank Lawrence, head coach of Red Bank Catholic High. “She has the combination of technical skill, speed and size that is very hard to match up with. I think her physical strength is what sets her apart.”

THE FUTURE: Tagliaferri has made a verbal commitment to play soccer on an athletic scholarship at Penn State University beginning in the fall of 2017.
