The Gatorade State Boys Cross Country Runners of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Andrew Bosquez


School: Hobbs (N.M.)
Grade: Junior
Position: Distance Runner
Height: 5-foot-7
Weight: 140 pounds

Athletic achievement: He raced to the Class 6A individual championship this past season with a time of 15:54.7, leading the Eagles to a state title as a team. A 2015 First Team All-State selection, Bosquez took 30th at the Nike Cross Nationals Southwest Regional championships, crossing the line in 15:32.

Academic excellence: Bosquez has maintained a B average.

Exemplary character: An accomplished pianist, he has volunteered locally as a youth track & field coach.


“Andrew Bosquez is a tremendous talent in cross country and track & field,” said Hobbs High head coach Bob Jackson.  “He is as humble in defeat as he is in victory.”

THE FUTURE: Bosquez will begin his senior year of high school this fall.
