The Gatorade State Softball Players of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Mia Davidson
School: Orange (Hillsborough, N.C.)
Athletic achievement: She led the Panthers (23-4) to the third round of the Class 3A state playoffs this past season. Davidson compiled a .740 batting average with 18 home runs, 49 RBI and 57 runs scored. A two-time All-State honoree, she posted an on-base percentage of .851 and a slugging percentage of 2.060. Davidson is the Big 8 Conference Player of the Year and is ranked as the nation’s No. 8 recruit in the Class of 2017 by FloSoftball.com.
Academic excellence: Davidson has maintained a 3.96 GPA.
Exemplary character: A member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, she has raised funds to send seriously ill children to summer camp and has also volunteered locally on behalf of a food bank.
“Davidson is the best hitter that I’ve seen in over 23 years coaching softball, and the best catcher too,” said Robbie Wray, head coach at Middle Creek High. “She has a great arm and her knowledge of the game is second to none.”
THE FUTURE: Davidson will begin her senior season of high school this fall.
