The Gatorade State Boys Track & Field Athletes of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Andrew Jordan
School: Watkins Memorial (Pataskala, Ohio)
Weight: 120 pounds
Athletic achievement: The distance talent set a state meet record in the 3200 at the Division I state meet this spring. Also state’s Gatorade Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year, Jordan broke the tape in 8:54.96. He also won the event at the Eastern Relays in April with a time of 8:46.72, which ranked as the nation’s No. 2 performance among prep competitors in 2016 at the time of his selection. Jordan completed the season undefeated in both the 1600-meter run and the 3200.
Academic excellence: Jordan has maintained a 4.14 GPA.
Exemplary character: A member of the National Honor Society, he has volunteered as a student ambassador at his school and also served as the vice president of the student government.
“I am totally impressed with Andrew Jordan’s work ethic and talent,” said Chuck Kyle, head coach at St. Ignatius High. “His improvement from his junior year to senior year is a clear indication of his off-season effort. Jordan always runs a confident but disciplined pace. He is a strong, friendly competitor.”
THE FUTURE: Jordan has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete on an athletic scholarship at Iowa State University this fall.
