The Gatorade State Boys Basketball Players of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 fall season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Lonnie Walker
School: Reading (Penn.)
Weight: 195 pounds
Athletic achievement: He had led the Red Knights to a 28-3 record and the semifinals of the Class AAAA state tournament at the time of his selection. Walker averages 16.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.7 blocks per game. The two-time Berks Player of the Year, he was a Second Team All-State selection as a sophomore. Walker is ranked as the nation’s No. 23 recruit in the Class of 2017 by ESPN.
Academic excellence: Walker has maintained a B average.
Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally feeding the homeless and assisting youth basketball programs.
“Walker has very polished skills, a high basketball IQ and insane athletic ability,” said Jon Treese, head coach at Muhlenberg High. “He has the ability to get into a zone and completely take a game over.”
THE FUTURE: Walker will begin his senior year of high school this fall.
