The Gatorade State Boys Cross Country Runners of the Year were selected based on athletic production and impact in the 2015-16 season. Each winner also demonstrated high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership.

THE WINNER: Seth Edwards
School: University (Morgantown, W.Va.)
Position: Distance Runner
Weight: 123 pounds
Athletic achievement: He raced to his second straight Class AAA individual championship this past season with a time of 15:35.8, leading the Hawks to a state title as a team. The state’s returning Gatorade Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year, Edwards also won the AAA Region I championship, breaking the tape in 15:53.8.
Academic excellence: Edwards has maintained a B average.
Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of Ruby Memorial Hospital and the Special Olympics in addition to completing a service-mission trip to Nicaragua.
“Seth Edwards came to our cross country team four years ago with an abundance of enthusiasm, energy and talent,” said University High head coach Ed Frohnapfel. “He has been able to focus his abilities and has become the best male runner in the history of our school.”
THE FUTURE: Edwards remains undecided upon a collegiate destination.
