The Westchester County Center will host the Section 1 basketball semifinals and finals from Feb. 22-28.

The Westchester County Center will host the Section 1 basketball semifinals and finals from Feb. 22-28.

Each night during the Section 1 girls basketball tournament, I’ll update scores, write game recaps and post the upcoming schedule for the next round’s games. If you have anything to add, feel free to contact me on Twitter @Zacchio_LoHud, or email me at mzacchio@lohud.com.

Between picking it to lose in my Class B “upset special” selection, and the fact that I haven’t seen Putnam Valley this year, it was only right that I covered the Tigers’ quarterfinal. I’m glad I did. No. 7 Putnam Valley upset No. 2 Briarcliff, 48-43, behind a stellar performance from eighth-grader Kelli Venezia. You can catch my game story, which includes video, here.

My colleague Adrian Szkolar pulled double duty tonight, covering Lourdes-Ossining and then the Ossining-Saunders boys game. He was originally slated to cover Mahopac-New Rochelle, but the pushed back time forced him to pick another 1 p.m. game. I picked that one. All I can say is, he got a show. Read his game story from the Pride’s rout here.

Over at our sister paper, The Poughkeepsie Journal, my colleague and fellow oldies aficionado A.J. Martelli wrote about No. 6 John Jay-East Fishkill’s upset of No. 3 Scarsdale. Help the culture out and give his story a read here.
