Sixth-seeded John Jay High School fell in a Section 1 Class AA semifinal to second-seeded North Rockland 56-45 at Westchester County Center in White Plains.
Marion Dietz led John Jay with a game-high 27 points. John Jay ended their season with a 16-7 overall record.
Alana Kroner added 10 points and four rebounds for the Patriots and Samantha Mosca had four points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
North Rockland (20-3) advanced to Sunday’s sectional final. Jaida Patrick led North Rockland with 17 points.
North Rockland’s offense struggled early on, and John Jay led 12-9 at the end of the first quarter.
“We changed up our defensive assignments,” North Rockland head coach Kevin Metcalf said. “We put Jaida out on the point guard, and her quickness gave them a little bit of trouble.”
The switch-up worked.
North Rockland was able to shut down the Patriots’ offense, and the Red Raiders secured a 27-19 lead heading into intermission.
It was a lead they would not relinquish.
John Jay graduates Dietz, Kroner, Mosca, Autumn Gifford, Sam Fitzgerald, Madi Castillo and Claire Thoma.
“I’d like to congratulate the seven seniors on a great four years for us,” John Jay coach Larry Brooks said. “What they’ve meant to the program is huge and they are going to really be missed.”
