Here is a look at the Lansing State Journal girls golf Dream Team and all-area selections.
GOLFER OF THE YEAR FINALISTS
Elaina DeRose, DeWitt junior: Played her best late in the season, posting rounds of 75 in the final CAAC Red meet and a Division 2 regional. Averaged 41.8 strokes per nine holes and 82.6 for 18. Named to the Division 2 all-state team and finished 14th individually at state final while leading the Panthers to a fifth-place finish as a team.
Abby Murray, St. Johns junior: Named to the Division 2 all-state team. Averaged 40.9 strokes per nine holes and 83.5 for 18. Led team at Division 2 state tournament with rounds of 85 and 86 and helped Redwings clinch a share of the CAAC Red – the first league title in program history.
Abigail Meder, Lansing Catholic senior: Averaged 40.4 strokes per nine holes and 80.36 for 18 as part of a dominant league season. Medaled in all four nine-hole conference jamborees and four of eight regular season 18-hole tournaments, along with the final CAAC White meet. Finished fifth individually at Division 4 state finals, first at regionals and was named all-state in Division 4 for the second year in a row.
Claudia Vondra, Mason junior: Averaged 40.6 strokes per nine holes and 85.45 per 18 to earn Division 2 all-state honorable mention. Finished with highest league point total among golfers in competitive CAAC Red. Took third individually at final conference meet with a 78 and fourth at Division 2 regional with an 80.
Lauren Kim, Okemos junior: Averaged 43.2 strokes per nine holes and 85.7 per 18. Won opening CAAC Blue jamboree and took second at final league meet. Named Division 2 all-state honorable mention. Finished fifth at regional individually to qualify for the state final and posted top-three finishes at invitationals hosted by St. Johns, Mason and Okemos.
Savera Rajendra-Nicolucci, Okemos freshman: CAAC Blue Player of the Year after earning most match points throughout the conference season. Averaged 42.3 strokes per nine holes and 86.85 per 18. Took first at the final CAAC Blue meet with an 81 and second at the opening CAAC Blue jamboree.
Audrey Wassner, Mason senior: Shot a 75 at final CAAC Red meet to tie DeRose for medalist and help Mason to back-to-back conference championships. Scored in every meet for the Bulldogs and was fourth behind Vondra, Murray and DeRose in league point total to earn CAAC Red all-conference honors. Averaged 44.2 strokes per nine holes and 88.5 for 18.
