Good amount of action for today. I’ll be doing a double-header, first covering Yorktown hosting Darien at 11 a.m. and then rushing over to North Rockland to catch the Red Raiders taking on Mamaroneck at 1 p.m.. As usual, follow me on Twitter for updates on both games. Hopefully, the weather won’t be too terrible.
Darien, a top team from Connecticut, was ranked 14th in the first installment of the Inside Lacrosse Women’s National High School power rankings. A strong performance, win or loss, could give the Huskers a big boost going deeper into the season.
With season-opening losses to Suffern and Fox Lane, Mamaroneck should be hungry to get its first win of the year. The game will also be North Rockland’s season-opener.
Two area teams, Bronxville and Suffern, will be heading down to Long Island to take part in the One Love Springfest at Manhasset High School.
While there will be several high-level boys and girls lacrosse games, more importantly, the games are being played to raise money for the One Love Foundation, an organization founded by Yeardley Love’s family. The organization raises awareness about the warning signs of relationship violence.
On May 2010, Love, a member of Virginia’s women’s lacrosse team, was murdered by her ex-boyfriend only two weeks before her graduation.
Bronxville’s head coach, Sharon Robinson, is a cousin of Love, and is also the Vice Chairman of One Love.
